Joel Myers Jr Charges to Second at Jacksonville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Jacksonville Speedway over the weekend, Joel Myers Jr and the Hayward Motorsports battled to a second place finish on Saturday night after Friday’s scheduled event was rained out.

“We had a really good car all night long,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Our heat race put us back a little bit in the feature event line up, and it was one of those races that I feel we have a decent shot to win if it was 30-laps and not 25, but still happy with how we had our car.”

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, a shaky start saw Myers Jr fall back to third aboard the IPC/Velocity Engineering/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 19 entry.

Holding down the third position, the Sebastopol, CA locked into the feature event but his point total put him in the 5th row of the 25-lap feature event. On a very slick surface that used the wall as the cushion, Meyers Jr went to work up top as soon as the green lights flashed.

Getting into eighth on the race’s opening lap, Myers Jr moved into seventh on the fourth lap as he continued to rip the top better than anyone else. Taking over the sixth position at the halfway point, Myers Jr was far from done as he was into fifth on the 14th lap.

As time ran out on him, Myers Jr continued to hammer the high side as he took over fourth on the 21st lap, and was then into third a lap later.

With the flagman showing the field two-to-go, Myers Jr worked his way into second but simply ran out of laps as he tracked down the race leader. With the checkered flag flying, Myers Jr closed his charge from 10th out with a second place finish.

“I really was able to get the top working with the way the cushion ramped up to the wall,” Myers Jr added. “I really needed a late caution or a few more laps, but really happy to come from 10th like we did.”
