Andy Forsberg 5th at the NorCal Posse Shootout
PETERSEN MEDIA: This past weekend saw Andy Forsberg and the PHR Racing team take part in the annual NorCal Posse Shootout at Placerville Speedway where Forsberg scored a fifth-place finish on Saturday night.
“We had really good car speed all weekend long,” Andy Forsberg said. “Friday night we were in a good spot until a car got out of shape in front of us and we went from 4th to last before pulling off, and on Saturday night we worked our way to a fifth-place finish.”
With 22 cars on hand for the annual two-day event, Forsberg went out second to last in time trials and was able to time the PHR/Wilkie Masonry/Western Traffic Supply backed No. 92 in second fastest.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Forsberg’s third place finish locked him into the all-important Dash. Taking the green flag from the fourth starting spot, Forsberg had a big run as he went to challenge for a spot on the front row for the feature event.
Charging hard into turn one, Forsberg caught a rut wrong and did everything but tip over as he fell back to a sixth-place finish.
Taking the green flag from the outside of the third row for the opening night feature event, Forsberg picked up a couple of positions early as he was in fourth for a double-file restart. When the action returned to green, a car got sideways in the same ruts in turn one and taking evasive action, Forsberg flew off the edge of the track and fell back to last.
Doing what he could in the back of the pack, Forsberg ultimately called it a night early as his team turned their attention to Saturday night.
Going out 19th for time trials on Saturday night, Forsberg still laid down a solid lap as he timed in sixth fastest overall on a very fast Placerville Speedway surface.
On the pole of his heat race, Forsberg needed the win to make the Dash and the odds were stacked against him with the bottom not the opportune place to start. Falling to second when his heat race went green, Forsberg tried everything he could to reel in Jake Haulot, but his second-place finish put him eighth on the starting grid for the $8000-to-win feature event.
With the track extremely dominant on the cushion for the feature event, Forsberg settled into sixth as the race came to life. A late restart went his way and as cars got out of shape in front of him, he was able to dip low and take over the fourth position.
In the waning laps of the feature, Forsberg got into the super thick cushion in turns three and four just out of shape enough to upset his car and in doing so it let Dylan Bloomfield by as he slipped back to fifth where he went on to close out the weekend.
“It was kind of a story of things going completely against us on Friday night, and Saturday night we had some things go our way for a change,” Forsberg said. “Two day shows are definitely tough on these local teams out here, and I have to give it up to my team for working so hard and really giving me a fast car.”
