Joel Myers Jr Races into Feature During Knoxville Raceway’s Regular Season Opener
PETERSEN MEDIA: Travelling to Knoxville, IA over the weekend to get some laps at the famed ½ mile, Joel Myers Jr and Hayward Motorsports were pleased with the progress they made in what was Myers Jr’s fifth start ever at the track.
“Knoxville is such a tricky place, and I was really happy with the progress we made and racing into the feature event against a really deep field of cars,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I don’t have a ton of ½ mile laps, so the more I can run there the more I can learn and the better we will get.”
Running some practice laps on Friday night, Saturday night saw Myers Jr time the Velocity Engineering/Installtec Inc./RPM Chassis backed No. 19 in 16th fastest in his qualifying flight.
Lining up eighth in his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver went to work in his heat race. Able to race his way into fifth, he earned the transfer into the 25-lap feature event where he lined up in 19th.
Despite being in the 10th row for the feature event, Myers Jr continued to focus on improving his racecraft on the famed speedway, and learning some of the track’s nuances.
When the feature event drew to a close, the 2025 Trophy Cup Champion scored an 18th place finish.
“This trip was more about getting laps and gaining experience,” Myers Jr added. “Like I said, I think it was a successful trip and I am thankful to my guys for their hard work during our test session and Saturday night during the race.”
