Andy Forsberg 13th at Placerville Speedway Following Late Incident While Leading
PETERSEN MEDIA: Back in action after a weekend away, Andy Forsberg flirted with his ninth win of the season on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway but a business decision relegated him to a 13th place finish when the dust settled.
“First off it was great to see such a packed house on fan appreciation night after the fair, and the place was in really good shape after all the fair time events, so really good on RMI,” Andy Forsberg said.
With 22 cars on hand, Forsberg got the night started by laying down the fourth fastest lap in time trials aboard the PHR/Wilkie Masonry/Western Traffic Supply No. 92 entry.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Forsberg got a great jump when the green flag flew and powered into the lead. Leading from flag to flag, Forsberg’s win moved him into the redraw where the two-pill put him on the front row of the 30-lapper.
With a very strong car underneath him on a very slick surface, Forsberg made his way to the cushion where he laid down some extremely strong laps and was equally as good in traffic.
With a trio of lapped cars between himself and second running Justyn Cox, a yellow on the 25th lap changed the complexion of the race, and removed Forsberg’s lapped car cushion.
When the action resumed with just five-laps left, Forsberg went to the bottom in turns one and two to take Cox’s line away and then went back to the high-side in turns three and four.
As he entered on the cushion, third running Cole Croft had a huge run behind him and as he dove low to slide up in front of Forsberg to make a bid at the lead, his move forced Forsberg to fall of the track or stay committed and most likely wreck.
Making a business decision, Forsberg checked up and slipped off the track and did a 360. Keeping the engine fired he was able to continue on, but was back in 13th which is where he went on to finish.
“At this point it’s just part of the way a lot of people race now, so I am used to it,” Forsberg said. “He did come down and say he thought he had enough of a run to clear, but it was one of those where I was going to wreck or slide off the track and decided to slide off. In the end, we had a car that was fast enough to win, and that is all I can ask for.”
