Dakota Albright Hangs On For Merced Speedway Top-5
PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to Merced Speedway on Saturday night, Dakota Albright fought some mechanical issues during the feature event and was still able to hang on to a fifth-place finish in the feature event.
“I got off to a bit of a rough start in time trials, but we were able to make a couple of adjustments and ran really well in our heat, and for most of the feature,” Albright said. “Unfortunately, while running third, we had a clutch fail with three to go and we ended up finishing fifth.”
Timing in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials aboard his Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/Matos Accountancy/Greenwood Machine and Fab backed No. 35Jr, Albright found himself on the front row of his heat race.
Making a gear adjustment between qualifying and heat race action, Albright was very happy with the change as he picked up the win his heat race convincingly and put himself in a great spot for the feature event.
Finding himself on the front row of the feature event on a reworked surface that was extremely fast, Albright didn’t quite account for how heavy the surface would be and slipped back in the early laps.
Falling back to third as the race got into a rhythm, Albright gave chase to the lead duo, but was unable to get close enough to mount any challenges. Continuing to hold down the final spot on the podium amidst the non-stop affair, Albright’s clutch failed with just three laps left in the race.
Hanging on for he could, Albright closed the night out with a fifth-place finish.
“It was a bummer way to end the night,” Albright said. “I really had no idea there might be an issue until it went, and then there wasn’t anything we could do.”
Dakota Albright would like to thank Thompson’s Family of Dealerships, Matos Accountancy, Greenwood Machine and Fabrication, 530 Wraps, Oval Chassis Research, Parker Performance and Fabrication, Romey’s Window Cleaning, Nutcher Milk, Angels Heavy Haul, West Steel and Plastics, Calhot Powder Coating, Sala Racing, Petersen Media, and Simpson Race Products for their support in 2025.
