Joel Myers Jr Makes Visit to Knoxville Raceway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night, Joel Myers Jr and the Hayward Motorsports team headed to Knoxville Raceway for another night of logging laps at the Sprint Car Capital of the World. Racing into the feature, Myers Jr capped his night off with an 18th place finish.
“Continuing to get to Knoxville and make laps, and learn, has been really valuable,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I feel like Saturday night was the best I have felt, and I am happy with the progress that we continue to make with our cars and for me in the seat.”
Timing the Velocity Engineering/Installtec Inc./RPM Chassis backed No. 19 in 24th fastest after being the second car on the clock for time trials, the Sebastopol, CA driver lined up in the third row of his heat race.
When the green flag flew, Myers Jr quickly jumped into the fifth and final transfer spot as he chased after Austin McCarl who ran just ahead of him. Holding down the transfer spot, Myers Jr took the fifth-place finish and moved into the 25-lap feature event where he rolled off of the starting grid from the 20th position.
On the famed ½ mile, Myers Jr continued to focus on hitting his marks in dirty air as he bounced between 18th and 20thfor the duration of the race. Settling into 19th, Myers Jr went on to pocket an 18th place finish with a last lap move.
“You always want to have good results and be better than where you finished, but it was definitely a good night for us in the scheme of it all,” Myers Jr added. “I really want to thank Brodie Hayward for all he does for our team, as well as my guys for their hard work and our partners for their continued support.”
