Landon Brooks 11th with NARC at Santa Maria Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to NARC action over the weekend at Santa Maria Speedway, Landon Brooks and the Hamilton Racing team picked up an 11th place finish during the feature event.
“Unfortunately, Santa Maria wasn’t a great night for us,” Landon Brooks said. “With the way the track was we couldn’t really get going from the back. The guys did a great job of trying things but it was a really heavy and choppy surface.”
Making his second appearance of the season at Santa Maria Speedway, Brooks got the night underway by timing the Lippert Construction/Tiner Hirst Enterprise/Mozingo Construction No. 21L in 12th fastest in qualifications.
Following a sixth-place finish in his heat race, the Rio Oso, CA driver lined up 12th in the feature event on a surface that stayed very fast all night long.
Settling into 12th when the green lights flashed on, Brooks was able to work his way into 11th on the second lap as passing continued to be tough as the field settled in and turned in quick laps.
With most drivers running the same speed with the track conditions, Brooks would close in on the Top-10 at times but was unable to break into it.
As the race went on and ultimately went caution free, there were no restart opportunities to try and make up any ground as Brooks closed the night out with an 11th place finish.
“Usually if the track is racy, we are able to rebound from a tough qualifying lap because we race really well, but on Saturday with the conditions we were just buried all night long,” Brooks noted. “I am looking forward to getting to Watsonville Speedway this Friday and Saturday night for the Howard Kaeding Classic.”
