Chance Grasty Records Two Top-5’s at HK Classic
PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading the Watsonville Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday and Saturday for the coveted Howard Kaeding Classic, Chance Grasty picked up a fifth-place finish on Friday night and a fourth-place finish during Saturday night’s finale.
The action kicked off on Friday night as Grasty timed the Bushey Financial Services/C&H Motor Parts/Sierra Single Ply Roofing backed No. x1 in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Grasty settled into second once the green flag flew. Holding firm with the runner up spot, Grasty’s eventual runner up finish put him on the outside of the fourth row for the opening night feature event.
Settling into eighth as the race came to life, the Suisun City, CA driver used a lap 13 restart to take over seventh on the running order. Able to move into sixth on the 19th lap, Grasty took over third on the 22nd lap as he looked to end his night on the podium.
Falling back to fourth on the 25th lap, Grasty slipped back to fifth on the 28th lap which is where he went on to close out the race.
Getting right back to work on Saturday night for the HK Classic finale, Grasty got off to a very similar start on this night as he qualified ninth fastest of the 25 cars checked into the pit area.
Finishing third in his heat race, the NARC Rookie of the Year contender rolled off the starting grid from the inside of the fifth row for the 30-lapper.
Slipping back to 14th in the opening laps of the feature event, Grasty was back into 12th on the fifth lap after the lead duo each ran into issues. Using a restart to move into the Top-10, Grasty was up into seventh on the ninth lap.
With the race in a very good groove and clicking off laps quickly, Grasty worked into the Top-5 on the 12th lap and then moved into fourth at the halfway point. Setting into fourth, Grasty was smooth as he chased after Justin Sanders and Landon Brooks who ran just ahead of him.
Unable to get to Sanders for the final spot on the podium, Grasty closed his weekend out with a fourth-place finish.
