PETERSEN MEDIA: A three-race weekend with the IRA took Joel Myers Jr and Hayward Motorsports to Wisconsin where Myers Jr picked up a win and a second-place finish.

“We had a great car all weekend long, and definitely were good enough to be on the podium each night,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Unfortunately, on Saturday night, we were in second with two-to-go and lost an engine, but aside from that we were really strong all three nights.”

Myers Jr got the party started on Friday night at Mississippi Thunder Speedway where he ultimately swept the night. The class of the field from start to finish, the Sebastopol, CA driver earned fast time honors, won his heat and the Dash, and then went on to lead every lap of the feature event.

Saturday night the scene shifted to Cedar Lake Speedway, and while he wasn’t the dominant car as he was on Friday he was still very strong as he timed the Velocity Engineering/Installtec Inc./RPM Chassis backed No. 19 in fourth fastest in time trials.

Running second in his heat race, Myers Jr moved into Dash No. 1 where a second-place finish put him in the second row of the ‘A’. As the race came to life, Myers Jr jumped into second as he chased after race leader, Christopher Thram, who was setting a strong pace ahead of him.

With cautions slowing the pace of the race, Myers Jr continued to run second. A late restart saw Myers Jr keep pace with Thram and as they entered turns three and four to come to the white flag, Myers Jr lost power and coasted to a stop as his night ended.

Heading to Sun Prairie, WI on Sunday night to compete at Angell Park Speedway, Myers Jr got off to another good start as he timed in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Advancing from second to first in his heat race, Myers Jr again moved into the Dash where a second-place finish in Dash No. 1 put him in the third starting spot of the feature event.

Settling into third as the action picked up, Myers Jr chased after Travis Arenz and Paul Nienhiser who ran just ahead of him in first and second. Keeping them in striking distance, Myers Jr continued to hold down the final spot on the podium as laps clicked off.

Getting into second on the 24^th lap as he raced past Nienhiser, Myers Jr just didn’t have enough to get to Arenz as he closed out a strong weekend with a runner up finish.

“Really thankful that the Hayward family continues to provide us with great equipment to compete night in and night out,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Also, my guys work extremely hard. These long weekends can be tough, but everyone continues to grind and it helps us have strong runs.”
