Angell Park Speedway Podium Highlights Triple Header Weekend for Paul Nienhiser
PETERSEN MEDIA: A weekend triple header with the IRA saw Paul Nienhiser attack three race tracks in Wisconsin and he saved his best for last as he capped the weekend off with a third-place finish on Sunday night at Angell Park Speedway.
“Friday night was my first time at Mississippi Thunder and we also had a new engine package we were testing, and it was just a bit of a struggle,” Nienhiser said. “It ran really well, but with how slick the surface was we chased our tails a little making grip. Saturday night I dealt with a wing starting to come apart late in the race, but luckily Sunday our issues seemed to be behind us and we ran really well.”
After timing 15th fastest in qualifying and finishing 5th in his heat race, Nienhiser and team continued to make adjustments to the AGRI-YIELD/CAM2 Lubricants/Midland Performance No. 9x to try and get the car drivable.
Lining up 14th in the feature event, a top dominant track made moving forward extremely tough. With his car trending the right direction, the Chapin, IL driver did pick up a few positions as he worked his way into the Top-10 and closed the night out with a 10th place finish.
Doing some Walmart work in the parking lot on Saturday before heading to Cedar Lake Speedway, Nienhiser and team got off to a much better start later that evening. Timing in second fastest in time trials, a third-place heat race finish put Nienhiser in Dash No. 1.
As his luck would have it, the five-pill put him in the third row of the four-lap shootout. Finishing fifth, Nienhiser lined up ninth in the 30-lap finale.
Following track prep prior to the feature, Nienhiser found himself stuck back battling for 10th as the track had become quite fast. As the track started to open up, then he had to deal with a top wing that was starting to come apart. Rather than pushing the issue and risking another damaged racecar, Nienhiser played it safe and was cautious during the final 10-laps as he closed the race out with an eighth-place finish.
Sunday night brought the final night of the busy weekend as the series traveled to Sun Prairie, WI to compete at the Angell Park Speedway. With his issues seemingly behind him, Nienhiser again timed in second fastest in time trials and picked up a third-place finish in his heat race.
Pulling the one in the Dash draw, he was on the pole for Dash No. 2, and the win put him on the front row of the feature event.
When the feature event came to life, Nienhiser jumped into second as he chased after the race leader, Travis Arenz. Closing in on Arenz a few times Nienhiser was hoping to make his move in traffic, but with the way the cautions fell that opportunity never presented itself.
Late in the race, Nienhiser gave up the second position as Joel Myers Jr was able to get by. Holding on to a podium spot, he closed the weekend out with a third-place finish.
“Sunday night we weren’t perfect, but we were pretty solid,” Nienhiser said. “I thought if we could get into traffic, I would have something for Travis (Arenz), but it just didn’t happen. Big thanks to my guys for working their butts off all weekend.”
