Andy Forsberg Back in Placerville Speedway Top-5
PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA, Andy Forsberg and the PHR Racing team picked up a fifth-place finish.
“It was a hot week in the area, there were 81 cars in the pit area and I think it caught up to the track because it actually ended up taking a little bit of rubber at the end of the night,” Forsberg said. “The night overall was long and full of cautions, so it wasn’t a great product but it was just one of those nights across every division.”
With 29 sprint cars checked in to the pit area, Forsberg kicked his night off by timing the PHR/Wilkie Masonry/Western Traffic Supply backed No. 92 in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.
In an eventful heat race that saw a trio of stoppages, Forsberg was able to jump into the lead during the race’s first two attempts but during the start that finally stuck he slipped back into second.
Chasing after Shane Hopkins and ultimately finishing second, the Auburn, CA driver had a little luck on his side as he was still locked into the redraw but the seven-pill put him in the fourth row of the 30-lapper.
With the night dragging on and the track taking a beating, an extremely slick surface greeted the field for the 30-lap finale. Stuck on the bottom in the opening laps as the race came to life, Forsberg slipped back to 10th before he was able to get up on the cushion like much of the field.
The action was extremely furious in front of him and as fate had it cars got together and wrecked, but Forsberg was able to avoid the altercation and pick up a few freebies.
Up into seventh, Forsberg slowly picked up a couple of positions in the final laps, and as he took the checkered in sixth, issues in post-race tech ahead of him bumped him up to a fifth-place finish.
“It was just one of those nights,” Forsberg said. “I didn’t really see anyone driving over their heads across any of the divisions, just a wild one. With another hot one ahead of us this week, I know Scott (track promoter) and the RMI team have their work cut out for them for next week’s track.”
Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, MCK, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
