Tanner Carrick Pockets Placerville Speedway Top-5
PETERSEN MEDIA: After a couple of weekends away from the track, Tanner Carrick returned to action on Saturday night in Placerville, CA where he scored a fourth-place finish.
“We had a great car and charged from 11th, but it is just too hard to start that far back in these races,” Tanner Carrick said. “We got called for a jump in our heat which I didn’t agree with and that made our chances of making the redraw that much tougher but we didn’t get our night off to a good start in time trials.”
With 29 cars on hand at Placerville Speedway, Carrick got the night underway by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T entry in 10th fastest in time trials after going out very late in the qualifying session.
Scheduled to line up on the outside of the front row of his heat race, which gave him a great opportunity to battle for a spot in the redraw, Carrick was called for a jump and put back a row.
Doing what he could from the second row, Carrick finished third in his heat race and found himself 11th on the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event.
When the green flag flashed on, Carrick ran in 10th for the first two laps until he worked into ninth on the third lap and was on the move following an early restart.
Working into sixth on the sixth lap, Carrick then found himself in a very entertaining battle for the final spot inside the Top-5 from lap eight to 14 as he swapped track position numerous times before taking the spot over for good on lap 15.
A late restart saw the Lincoln, CA driver move into fourth and the final 11 laps saw him chase after Jake Morgan and Justyn Cox who ran ahead of him in second and third. Unable to crack the podium, Carrick closed a solid charge out with a fourth-place finish.
“The schedule has been a little messy the last few weeks, so I really want to thank my guys for continuing to give me a fast car despite not being able to really get into a rhythm as of late,” Carrick said.
