Bubba DeCaires Sixth as Weekly Action Resumes at Skagit Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to Skagit Speedway on Saturday night after being idle for a couple of weekends, Bubba DeCaires had a nice showing in the pacific northwest as he picked up a sixth-place finish in the feature event.

“Saturday night went pretty well for the most part on a tricky surface,” Bubba DeCaires said. “In the feature I was able to get up into fourth, but working in traffic and on the rough surface I ended up slipping back to a sixth-place finish.”

Returning to the famed speedway nestled just outside of Burlington, WA, the Elk Grove, CA driver got the night underway by timing his Morrison Concrete/Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty/High Sierra Industries backed No. 94 entry in 10th fastest in time trials.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, DeCaires was able to make a couple of nice moves as he worked his way up into third. Holding the third position for the closing laps of his heat, DeCaires was locked into the 6th starting position for the impending 25-lap feature event.

Dealing with a surface that was rougher than normal, DeCaires was able to quickly work his way into fourth as the race came to life. Turning in some strong laps as he navigated around the tricky surface, he soon found himself in traffic as he chased after the Top-Three.

Navigating with slower traffic, and being careful to avoid a few of the holes that had presented themselves, DeCaires had a couple of minor missteps that did prove to cost him track position.

Slipping back a couple of spots as the race drew to a close, DeCaires closed his night out with a sixth-place finish.

“I felt pretty good on the rough surface, and getting back to racing for the first time in a few weeks,” DeCaires added. “The track was not like anything we have really seen all year so that made it a little tricky, and trying to navigate that and deal with traffic caused me to make a couple of mistakes. Other than that, I was happy with how we unloaded and with the changes we made.”

DeCaires would like to thank Morrison Concrete, Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty, High Sierra Industries, JLC Performance, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Wion’s Body Shop, and QuickCar Racing Products for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-14, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-6

ON TAP: DeCaires will be idle this weekend, but will be back in action at Skagit Speedway on August 29th.
