PETERSEN MEDIA: Finally getting the chance to compete at Calistoga Speedway, the Sebastopol, CA resident made the most of his debut as he scored a third-place finish on Saturday night before finishing fifth during Sunday night’s finale.

“To finally get a chance to compete at Calistoga Speedway was really special,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Who knows what the future for this place is, so to take advantage of the weekend close to home, and run very well, was really cool.”

Taking part in the winged 360 portion of Louie Vermeil Classic weekend, Myers Jr was one of four drivers to time in under the track’s existing track record on Saturday night as he ended up third fastest aboard the Graham Rahal Performance/Gary Tennyson Motorsports/All About Fire Protection backed No. 46 Jr.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Myers Jr nailed the loud pedal as the field came to green and he jumped into the early lead. Pulling away from the field, Myers Jr was able to lead all 12 laps as he picked up the win before pulling the three in the nightly redraw.

Following extensive track work prior to the 25-lap feature rolling out on the famed ½ mile, Myers Jr settled into third as the green lights flashed on. With the track having a ton of grip, passing was essentially nonexistent as he settled into third and chased after Justyn Cox and Shane Golobic who ran just in front of him.

With the race going non-stop, Myers Jr was able to maintain the position and close his night out with a podium finish as he ran third in his first ever appearance at the facility.

Back in action on Sunday night to wrap up the weekend, Myers Jr didn’t get his night started quite how he had hoped as he ended up 10^th fastest in time trials.

Hoping to make up some ground in his heat race to better his feature event starting position, the youngster had a great start as he powered his way into third as the field made their way down the back stretch.

With his third-place finish, Myers Jr moved into the 25-lap finale where he rolled off the starting grid from the sixth starting spot. As the feature came to life, Myers Jr was able to work his way into fifth as the field quickly began to click off laps.

For the second consecutive night the race went caution free, but as the leaders got strung out it was hard to make up ground on the ½ mile surface.

Getting through traffic with ease, Myers Jr went on to close his weekend out with a fifth-place finish.

“I really want to thank my guys for their hard work all weekend long,” Myers Jr said. “With having to pit in the infield, Calistoga makes for a bit of some added work and everyone worked well together. Also, a big thank you to all of the great people who support this team and make weekends like this possible. It was great to race in front of my family, and so many friends.”
