Cole Wakim Scores Win in Ventura, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA: Traveling to Ventura Raceway on Saturday night, Cole Wakim used a late race pass to score his first win of the season aboard the Quick Change Liquid Energy/JFM backed No. 73.
“The track was super narrow, so once I got into the lead I knew if I hit my marks it would be tough go lose the top spot,” Cole Wakim said. “On the flipside, I had to be super patient waiting for an opening to finally get into the lead.”
Going out 10th in qualifying time trials, Wakim ended up second fastest aboard the Quick Change Liquid Energy/Inland Rigging/MPe backed entry which put him on the pole of his heat race.
From the front row, the Simi Valley, CA driver mashed the gas when the green lights flashed and stormed the early lead on the tight confines of Ventura Raceway.
Picking up the heat race win, Wakim found himself in the second row of the feature event with the low groove the preferred line. Moving into second when the feature came to life, Wakim was extremely patient as he chased after the race lead.
On the sixth lap, Wakim got the opening he needed as he powered into the race lead and never looked back. Out in front, he was extremely smooth on the low groove as he kept the field at bay and pocketed his first win of the season.
“Rolling the bottom can be tricky, so I just made sure to stay smooth and I knew the car was extremely good,” Wakim said.
