Cole Wakim 14th at Perris Auto Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking in at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night for the ‘Salute to Indy’, Cole Wakim and the Josh Ford Motorsports team picked up a 14th place finish with USAC/CRA series.
“Perris is a place that I am continuing to learn and get comfortable at,’ Cole Wakim said. “We had good speed, but a couple of little issues popped up and resulted in us falling pretty far back.”
Hitting the famed ½ mile in southern CA on Saturday night, Wakim timed the Quick Change Liquid Energy/Inland Rigging/MPe backed No. 73 in ninth fastest to open the night up, and that put him in the second row of his heat race.
Pocketing a fifth place finish in his heat, the Simi Valley, CA driver moved into the feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the ninth position.
When the race went green, Wakim got off to a nice start as he picked up a couple of early spots on as he jockeyed for position around the ½ mile.
As the laps clicked off, Wakim slowly lost some speed as he slipped back through the Top-10 and ultimately fell out of the Top-10.
Dropping back to 14th, Wakim was able to settle in for the closing laps and hole the spot as the race came to a close.
“It’s a tricky place, but I felt like I learned a lot despite the issues,” Wakim said. “Thanks to Jimmy and the entire JFM team for their hard work on Saturday night.”
