Ryan Bernal 16th in Tulare, CA With High Limit After Late Contact

PETERSEN MEDIA: Ryan Bernal and the Josh Ford Motorsports team were right back to it over the weekend as they hooked up with Kubota High Limit Racing during their first weekend out west where Bernal had a Top-10 run going in Tulare, CA until contact on the last lap relegated him to a 16th place finish.

“Friday was really good for us until the last lap, basically,” Ryan Bernal said. “We had a great run going but we got turned and ‘blended’, and we ended up 16th after battling inside the Top-10.”

Heading to the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA for the first night of the High Limit swing, Bernal got the night underway by timing the NOS Energy Drink/Inland Rigging/MPe backed No. 73 entry in 22nd fastest which put him in a bit of an early hole.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Hollister, CA native had his elbows up on the grueling 1/3 mile oval as he picked up a pair of crucial spots and earned a fourth place finish to lock into the feature event.

Taking the green from the 15th starting position, Bernal was very solid as the race came to life as he began his march towards the Top-10. Working into ninth by just the fourth lap, Bernal settled into 10th as the race got into a bit of a flow.

A restart on the 19th lap saw him slip back to 11th, but he was able to work his way back into 10th with 10-laps to go in the feature. Continuing to run inside the Top-10, contact to his rear nerf bar coming to the white flag saw Bernal spin and though he was able to keep it under power the yellow flew and he was ‘blended’ into the 16th spot for the restar.t

The final green-white-checkered- segment saw Bernal hold the spot and close the night out with a 16th place finish.

Travelling to Placerville, CA on Saturday night, Bernal had high hopes for the ¼ mile bullring after success in both winged and non winged cars over the course of this season, but it was not the night he wanted.

“I didn’t really make a good lap all night,” Bernal said. “It was a tough night.”

Timing in 18th in time trials, Bernal lined up ninth in his heat race and did make some noise as he worked his way forward. With five transfer spots up for grabs, Bernal got into sixth and made a bid for the feature but was unable to get into fifth in the closing laps.

Forced into the ‘B’, Bernal lined up in the fourth spot and a slight bobble led to contact and it put him to the rear, where he ultimately ended the night with an 11th place finish.

“Just a tough night on a short track,’ he added. “We have good speed, and I am excited to sew what we can do at the Gold Cup.”
