Andy Gregg’s Alphabet Soup Bid Comes Up Just Short in Hanford, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: A part failure during his heat race on Saturday night put Andy Gregg in a deep hole with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour in Hanford, CA. Relegated to the ‘C’ Main, the Placerville, CA driver would come up just one spot short of fighting back into the feature event.

“It was a bummer of a night, but considering we broke a wheel-center going into a corner, we were just lucky we didn’t bring a pile of bent parts home,” Andy Gregg said. “We had an extremely fast racecar again so that is definitely a positive that came from the night.”

Timing the GUTS/Angius and Terry LLP/Capitol Ace Hardware backed No. 16 entry in 3rd quickest in qualifying time trials, Gregg would find himself in a transfer spot after getting out of shape early in the race.

Looking to punch his ticket into the feature event, Gregg’s right-rear wheel center would break and somehow his machine would slide to a stop with no further damage.

Despite the good time trial effort, Gregg’s heat race finish would relegate him to the ‘C’ Main, which he would win, and then would move him into the ‘B’ Main where he would grid the field from the 15th starting position.

From deep in the field, Gregg had a very sporty Ice House Resort/CTL Forest Management/Nail-It Roofing machine as he seemingly got faster and faster lap after lap as he forged ahead through the field.

Getting into fifth late in the race, Gregg would lay down the fastest lap of the race on the 15th and final circuit, but he would run out of laps as his fifth place finish would bring his night to an early end.

“It’s kind of cliché, but I think if we had one more restart late we would have made it back into the ‘A’, “ Gregg said. “We got better and better as the B went on and we just ran out of laps. I have to thank my guys for all of their hard work on and off the track as well as all the great companies that help us get up and down the road.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Angius and Terry LLP, Capitol ACE Hardware, Ice House Resort, CTL Forest Management, Nail It Roofing, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, and MF Inc. for their support in 2018.

ON TAP: Andy Gregg will sit idle this weekend and next weekend before returning to action on July 4th at Placerville Speedway.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins- 0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-5
