Austin Liggett Seventh with USAC West Coast 360’s at Ventura Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Heading south with the USAC West Coast 360 Series, Austin Liggett would have an eventful night that culminated with the Tracy, CA pilot securing a seventh place finish on Saturday night.

“It was an eventful evening, but luckily for me I had my dad working on our racecar all night, and he gave me a strong piece each time we hit the speedway,” Liggett said.

Timing the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Lucas Oil backed No. 83 machine in fourth fastest out of 22 cars during time trials, Liggett would line up in the second row of his heat race.

Hitting a rut in time trials caused a shock to fail, and Liggett and his team wouldn’t find that out until heat race action. Fighting an ill handling car because of shock issues, Liggett would be involved in a tangle and would be credited with a seventh place finish.

Able to make repairs prior to the feature event, Liggett would grid the field from the 19th starting spot after failing to ‘transfer’ out of his heat race. On a tricky Ventura Raceway, Liggett would have to have his elbows up and be aggressive at times to make headway.

Executing some nice moves by sliding up in front of the competition, Liggett would soon find himself well inside the Top-10. As the race continued on, Liggett would seemingly get better and it would allow him to grab a few spots late in the feature event.

When the 30-lap feature came to a close, Liggett had worked his way up to a seventh place finish.

“We just ran out of laps in the feature” Liggett said. “You had to make your moves at the right time, and we started to make ours later in the race. I think if we had some more laps we definitely could have cracked the top-five.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Lucas Oil, Tool Technology, Infinity Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, Brian Sperry Racing, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-16, Wins-6, Top 5’s-13, Top 10’s-16

ON TAP: Liggett will now set his sights on Petaluma Speedway as he climbs back aboard the Brian Sperry Racing 51 in another C&H Veteran Enterprises Hunt Series event.
