Dawson Hammes Ends 2022 Season During Thanksgiving Week at Merced Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting one final race in for the 2022 season, Dawson Hammes and his Hammes Motorsports team made the trip to Merced Speedway and took part in the track’s annual pre-Thanksgiving event. Though some bad luck would hinder his results, Hammes was pleased with the speed he had heading into the off season.

“I really have to thank all of my friends and family that came and supported me last week,” Hammes said. “Joel Myers Jr, Lucas Boland, and my brother were extremely instrumental in helping us get the car back together so we could return to racing on Wednesday after we endured some issues on Tuesday night.

Hammes kicked the final races of the season off on Tuesday night as he timed in 20th quick in qualifying time trials. Admittedly making a mistake in heat race competition, Hammes was relegated to a seventh-place finish in his heat race and it forced him into the night’s ‘B’ Main.

Lining up 12th in the semi, Hammes got off to a great start as he quickly began working his way forward on the tight Merced Speedway confines. Racing into fifth, Hammes eyed the fourth and final transfer position, however a faulty U Joint would force him to end his night early.

Making repairs to the Voodue Company/Movement Brewing/STS Farming No. 55D during the day on Wednesday, Hammes was back in action for one final night as he opened the evening up by timing in 19th fastest in time trials.

Racing to a fifth-place finish in his heat race, Hammes transferred directly into the feature event where he took the green flag from the 19th starting position.

Just as he did in Tuesday’s ‘B’, Hammes went forward early. Racing through the star-studded field, Hammes raced is way into the Top-10 from the back of the pack.

Looking to continue to pick up spots, contact would ensue with a fellow competitor, and it resulted in a steering box breaking on Hammes’ mount. The damage would unfortunately end Hammes’ night and bring 2022 to an early end.

“Joel Myers Jr really gave me a strong car both nights, and we had a ton of speed,” Hammes added. “I just made too many mistakes on my end, but the end of the season we had has me really excited for 2023. Thanks you to everyone that supported us in 2022.”

Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Voodue Company, Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.
