PETERSEN MEDIA: After getting caught up in an opening lap wreck on Friday night in Tulare, CA, Justyn Cox is excited that one of the events he looks forward to every year is upon us, as he is set for this Saturday and Sunday’s Marvin Smith Classic at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, OR.
“I love getting up to Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon whenever I can, and the Marvin Smith Memorial is an event a truly look forward to,” Justyn Cox said. “We have been close to winning it a few times, and this year I will be up there with Doug Rutz, and really like our chances after the speed we have had together in a few starts this year.”
Cox and the Rutz team were in action on Friday night in Tulare, CA with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Timing in second fastest in his qualifying group, Cox would finish fifth in his heat race which would be good enough to propel him in the 30 lap Peter Murphy Classic opening night feature event.
Lining up in the 18th starting position, a massive pile up would take place in front of car, and trying to avoid the mess, Cox would spin through the infield and make heavy contact with the K-Rail. The damage would be extensive and Cox and Rutz Racing would see their night come to a close.
“The guys have worked really hard this week putting a new car together, and I am excited to get up there,” Cox said. “Winning the opener in 2017, the Sunday night finale is one that I want very badly. It will be a stacked field, but I am in a very good car, and am excited to compete at this race in one of those cars riched in Northwest history.”
