Sean Becker Second at Placerville Aboard Brian Sperry Racing 51

PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing aboard the Brian Sperry Racing No. 51 non-wing car on Saturday night in Placerville, CA Sean Becker nearly put together a story book night with the longtime car owner and crew chief but would end up settling for second when the race came to a close.

“Brian Sperry has put together an extremely fast racecar, and everything seemed to be coming together for us to grab another win together, but the driver seemed to run out of talent,” Sean Becker said.

Driving Sperry’s winged entry in years past, Becker made an extremely rare wingless appearance on Friday night and showed speed very early as he timed the C&H Veteran Enterprises/Excel Environmental Services/Benic Enterprises No. 51 machine fastest during qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, ‘The Shark’ took a bite out of the competition as he rode the bottom groove to the win and earned a spot in the all important redraw.

Putting the potent BSR machine on the front row of the feature event, Becker would get off to a strong start as he rocketed out to the lead on the slick ¼ mile. Leading the way for the first five laps of the 20 lap affair, the yellow flag would bunch the field back up.

The restart would turn out to be detrimental for Becker as he dove in low to turns one and two and his machine would push up the track and open the door for the second place car.

Forced to run the top, Becker would actually fall back to third at one point as he tried everything he could to pick up his lost track position. Able to get my Jimmy Christian later in the race to take over the second spot, Becker would close in on race leader, Jake Morgan, but ran out of time and took the checkered flag in the second position.

“I was honored that Brian Sperry thought of me late in the week and asked to drive his car, but feel bad that I couldn’t close the deal out for him,” Becker added. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have some fun.”

Brian Sperry Racing would like to thank C&H Veteran Enterprises, Excel Environmental Services, Benic Enterprise, Santomauro Racing Products, Jarrett Soares Racing, and Bailey Bros. Racing Engines for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-11, Wins-6, Top 5’s-11, Top 10’s-11
