Andy Forsberg 2nd with Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Placerville Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: After a bit of a turbulent Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA, Andy Forsberg and the PHR Racing team capped their weekend with a runner up finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Placerville Speedway.
“Friday night we just had some things go wrong that made for a bit of a long night,” Andy Forsberg said. “Saturday night we were pretty good, but the feature was riddled with cautions and stoppages and never got into a flow. We were able to finish second, but it was a pretty long and drawn-out race.”
Going near the end of time trials, Forsberg found some speed on the tricky surface as he timed the PHR/Wilkie Masonry/Western Traffic Supply backed No.92 in eighth fastest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race alongside Shane Hopkins, Forsberg lost the drag race into turns one and two and settled into second. Taking a couple shots at Hopkins for the top spot, Forsberg settled for the runner up finish which put him in the fourth row for the feature event.
With the initial start being negated due to a red flag, a couple of additional cautions kept the race from getting underway. Finally able to string a few laps together, Forsberg was able to race into the Top-5 on the eighth lap before more stoppages slowed the race.
Working his way into fourth on the 14th lap, Forsberg was able to move into third on the 16th lap until another caution on the 22nd circuit bunched the field back up. Taking over second on the restart, Forsberg chased after Hopkins over the final markers but was unable to make a bid for his ninth win of the season as he closed the night out in second.
“My team worked hard all weekend and I am glad to get them a good finish on Saturday,” Forsberg said. “With SCCT Speedweek continuing on up into Oregon, Saturday ends our stint. We have some things we want to try this weekend and we will give it a shot at Marysville Raceway.”
