Andy Forsberg Battles To Top-10 at Adobe Cup After Mid-Race Incident
PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking on the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA for the Adobe Cup, Andy Forsberg rallied from a mid-race incident while running second to secure an eighth-place finish.
“Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, the track was definitely interesting with some re shaping that has gone into it,” Andy Forsberg said. “We got to racing in the feature, and for some reason a lapped car ran over our left rear after we moved into second and basically ended our night. We did restart and salvaged an eighth-place finish, but really don’t know why it went down as it did.”
With 15 cars on hand for the annual event at Petaluma Speedway, Andy Forsberg went out last in the qualifying session and on a very rough surface the Auburn, CA driver held on to time the PHR/Wilkie Masonry/Western Traffic Supply No. 92 in eighth quickest.
Finishing fourth in his heat race, Forsberg moved into the 30-lap feature event where he rolled off of the starting grid from the outside of the fourth row.
When the race came to life, Forsberg settled into seventh for the first five laps before he took over sixth on the sixth lap.
Inheriting a couple of spots and moving into fourth on a restart, Forsberg was up into third on the eighth lap and chasing after the young lead duo of Cole Croft and Luke Hayes.
As traffic quickly became an issue, Forsberg was able to move into second on the 17th lap and as they raced in traffic contact from a lapped car resulted in a flat right rear tire for Forsberg’s car.
Going to the work area, Forsberg’s team was able to make swift repairs and get him back on track as he restarted from the 13th position.
Moving into 12th when the action resumed, Forsberg was able to take the 11th position over on the 23rd lap, and reentered the Top-10 on lap 26.
Looking as if he was on his way to a ninth-place finish, a car got out of shape in the final set of corners and it allowed Forsberg to finish eighth at the stripe.
“It was just an unfortunate way for our night to end,” Andy Forsberg said. “Still kind of puzzled by it all, but was happy that we were able to move forward and get into second.”
