Andy Forsberg Nets Two Top-10’s During Watsonville and Placerville’s Season Opening Events
PETERSEN MEDIA: Andy Forsbserg and the PHR Racing team had another busy weekend which saw the team pick up a fourth-place finish on Friday night at Watsonville Speedway and backed it up with a seventh-place finish at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
“Friday night, we still fought that engine that has been having us rack our brains, so we decided to pull it before the feature and the replacement ran really well,” Forsberg said. “Saturday night, we had really good speed, but I just got caught behind a car that got out of shape late in the race and lost a couple spots playing the avoiding game.”
Friday night, Forsberg and company checked into Watsonville Speedway where they got off to a bit of a slow start as the Auburn, CA driver timed in 9th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Able to work his way up to a third-place finish in his heat race, Forsberg and company still were not happy with how their powerplant was behaving and made the decision to swap prior to the ‘A’ Main.
With a ton of hands-on-deck to assist in the swap, Forsberg was able to take his eighth starting position in the 25-lap feature event. When the race went green, Forsberg was extremely fast as he carved his way forward, and laid down some of the quickest laps of the race.
Powering his way up into third, Forsberg lost the spot in the closing laps and capped the night off with a fourth-place finish.
Saturday night saw the team make the trip to Placerville Speedway to take part in the track’s season opening event. With 23 cars checked into the pit area, Forsberg was the last car to time in and ended up 11th on the speed chart.
Finishing third in his heat race, Forsberg transferred into the feature event where he took the green flag from the 10thposition, on a surface that stayed very ‘grippy’ and retained a lot of moisture despite unseasonably high temperatures.
When the green flag dropped, Forsberg was able to make some big moves on the ¼ mile bullring as he worked his way through the Top-10 and into the Top-5. Getting into fifth after a couple of timely cautions, he looked to be on his way to a fifth-place finish until a car got out of shape in front of him and as he took evasive action to avoid contact, he lost a few positions and slipped back to a seventh-place finish.
“I am really proud of my team with how hard they worked all weekend long,” Forsberg said. “I am surrounded by a great group of people who love to go racing, and it makes it fun. I am little disappointed with how our night ended on Saturday, but that has nothing to do with how our car was, just a bit bummed with how the last few laps turned out for us.”
Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, MCK, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
