A robust field of the 35 cars packed into the Placerville Speedway pit area for the tracks annual late Summer staple dubbed as the Mark Forni-CJ Humphreys Classic. An event that was created to honor a longtime supporter of the track, and then for this first time, this year honored fallen racer, CJ Humphreys who was a driver that Mark Forni always supported.
Getting his night kicked off by timing the Safety-Kleen/Keizer Wheels backed No. 88 in 14th fastest, the Glendale, AZ driver lined up in the fourth row of his heat race. On the slick Placerville Speedway surface, Torgerson quickly worked into sixth as he chased after one of the four automatic transfers into the feature event.
Racing into fifth, he chased after Colby Johnson who sat ahead of hi in fourth but just couldn’t get to him to pressure for the spot. Fishing fifth in his heat race, he was forced into the ‘B’ where he took the green flag from the sixth starting position.
As the semi came to life, Torgerson was able to settle into sixth as he desperately tried to crack a spot inside the Top-4 in the rapidly moving 12-lap affair.
Spending much of the semi in sixth, Torgerson was able to race into fifth coming to the white flag as the leaders were in traffic. Looking like his night would come to a close without a feature event appearance, Torgerson moved into fourth on the final lap as another transfer car half spun and gave up the spot.
Finishing fourth, Torgerson was locked into the 30-lapper though it took the green from the 20th and final starting position.
Following the track prep session that took place just prior to the feature event, Torgerson was set when the green flag was displayed to the field. Passing proved to be a little tricky deep in the field, but the Arizona driver was able to patiently work his way forward with limited stoppages during the race on this night.
Carefully working his way forward, Torgerson survived the 30-lapper as he took the Ron Stahl checkered flag with a 16thplace finish.
