Austin Torgerson Tunes Up For Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing back aboard the family owned 360ci on Saturday night to reacclimate to the full sized Sprint Car before next week’s Trophy Cup, Austin Torgerson had a solid night as he raced into the Sprint Car Challenge Tour feature event.
With 35 cars checked into the pit area for the ‘Trophy Cup Tune Up’, Torgerson timed in 10th fastest in his qualifying flight, which then put him in the third row of his heat race.
Battling for the final transfer in the eight lap heat, the Glendale, AZ driver ultimately finished sixth which put him in the ‘B’ which did give him the opportunity to run 10 additional laps.
Lining up on the front row, Torgerson was able to settle into second once the race got going after a pair of early red flags. Getting more comfortable with each and every lap, Torgerson’s second place finish locked him into the 30-lap feature event as he took the green flag from the 22nd starting position.
In the 30-lapper Torgerson was able to work his way forward a few spots as he worked through some of the rough patches that were offered up in a feature that went nearly nonstop after a lone stoppage in the opening laps.
Getting up into 18th, Torgerson dipped to the low side of the speedway as the leaders approached him and opted to stay out of their way.
Figuring out the low groove in the race’s closing laps, Torgerson capped his night off with an 18th place finish in the feature.
ON TAP: Torgerson will be idle this weekend, before returning to Tulare, CA Oct 16-17-18 for the Trophy Cup.
