Austin Torgerson Wins Friday Non-Winged Outlaw Feature Before Making Sprint Car Season Debut

PETERSEN MEDIA- Friday night at Plaza Park Raceway, Austin Torgerson fended off his younger brother, Ashton, to score top honors in the non-winged outlaw division giving him his second feature event win of the season.

With the weather hindering the start of his 2025 schedule at times, Austin Torgerson was able to get in more micro racing on Friday night before making his sprint car season debut on Saturday in Placerville, CA.

Friday night Torgerson had issues in the winged car, but his non-winged portion of the event went exactly as planned.

Timing in second fastest in qualifications, the Glendale, AZ driver lined up in the second row of his heat race. Racing to a third place finish, he found himself on the front row of the feature event as he chased after his second feature event win of 2025.

When the race came to life, Torgerson was hard on the throttle as he powered out to the early lead. Setting a quick pace out front he soon had a familiar foe on his rear bumper as younger brother, Ashton, moved into second.

Fending his brother off, Austin was able to hold the bragging rights on this night as he powered to the Friday night win before shifting gears and turning his attention a winged 360ci sprint car on Saturday night.

Against a loaded field of 35 cars that were on hand with most of the region being cancelled for weather or other issues, Torgerson timed in seventh fastest in his qualifying group.

After a seventh place finish in his heat race, Torgerson was on the front row of the ‘B’ as he looked to keep his night alive and transfer into the feature event.

When the semi came to life, Torgerson settled into second and continue re-acclimate to the bigger car as he made his season debut. Finishing second, his ticket was punched into the feature event.

Taking the green flag form the 18th starting position, Torgerson never was able to get rolling through traffic against a very talented field of drivers. Keepin his nose clean, the AZ resident capped the night off with an 18th place finish.

ON TAP: Torgerson now heads back to the central valley in CA this weekend as he will be in Lemoore, CA Friday and Saturday night.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-6, Wins-2, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-3
