Braden Chiaramonte 11th with NARC at Watsonville

PETERSEN MEDIA: After taking a weekend off, Braden Chiaramonte was back in action over the weekend as he took on NARC Friday night in Watsonville, CA and the USCS in Bakersfield, CA on Saturday.

“Friday night I felt like we timed in well, but I didn’t feel very good in our heat,” Chiaramonte said. “In the feature I think we had a pretty good car but the track was super hard to pass on and we ended up 11th.”

With 23 NARC cars checked in at Watsonville Speedway on Friday night, Chiaramonte got the night kicked off by timing in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, the El Cajon, CA driver lined up in the sixth row for the 30-lap feature event. When the feature came to life, Chiaramonte settled into 11th as the race ripped off laps quickly before the first caution flew on the 14th lap.

Back in 13th when that caution flew, Chiaramonte briefly worked his way into 12th on the restart but was back in 13th a lap later. Able to use a restart to get back into 12th on the 18th lap, Chiaramonte took over the 11th position on the 28th lap which is where he went on to finish.

Making the trip south for Saturday night, Chiaramonte and company rolled out their non-wing car as they took on the USCS at Kern County Raceway Park.

Timing in second fastest in his qualifying flight, Chiaramonte flexed his muscle in heat race action as he picked up the win and put himself in the second row of the feature event.

Slipping back to fourth when the race came to life, Chiaramonte raced into third on the third lap and closed in on the lead duo. Moving into second on the 14th lap, Chiaramonte wasn’t done just yet as he raced into the lead on the 16th marker.

Leading the next three laps, trouble struck on the 19th lap as a lapped car changed lanes in front of Chiaramonte and contact ultimately ensued and knocked him out of the race.

“Saturday night was a huge bummer,” Chiaramonte said. “We had a great car and I think we had a really good shot at a win, but a car went from the top of the track down to the bottom and took us out.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 15, Wins- 1, Top 5’s- 3, Top 10’s- 5

ON TAP: Chiaramonte will be idle this weekend and is possibly setting up to run NARC’s fastest 5 Days which then lead into Dirt Cup.
