Chance Grasty Battles For 10th at Davy Thomas Memorial
PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing at both Watsonville Speedway and Placerville Speedway over the weekend, Chance Grasty dealt with some Friday night adversity as he ultimately finished 16th, and then picked up a 10th place finish on Saturday night in Placerville, CA at the Davy Thomas Memorial.
“Friday night we had some bad luck at the NARC show, and with the way the track raced as soon as we got behind it was almost impossible to make up ground,” Chance Grasty explained.
With Watsonville Speedway utilizing group qualifying, Grasty was out in the first group of the night and ended up timing the Bushey Financial Services/C&H Motor Parts/Sierra Single Ply Roofing backed No. x1 entry in eighth fastest overall.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Grasty didn’t get the launch he needed out of four coming to the green flag and settled into second place. Finishing second, Grasty then lined up on the outside of the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event.
When the race got ready to go green and the drivers got to take a couple of warm-up laps, Grasty felt something go haywire in his front end. Opting to ride it out, Grasty rode around inside the Top-10 when the race came to life and settled into a 14-lap green flag run.
When the red came out, Grasty had a left rear tire go down, so while his crew was able to swap tires, they were unable to address the shock stud that backed itself out of the front axle and Grasty restarted from the tail end of the field.
With the track still very fast late in the night, Grasty was able to pick up a couple of positions during the second half of the feature as he closed Friday night out with a 16th place finish.
Switching to their 360ci powerplant on Saturday, Grasty and company made the trip up to Placerville Speedway to compete against the Sprint Car Challenge Tour in the 2nd Annual Davy Thomas Memorial.
Timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying flight, Grasty was again on the front row of his heat race where he needed to pick up the win to guarantee himself a spot in the nightly Dash.
Making a bid for the lead in turns one and two, Grasty’s efforts were crossed over down the back stretch and he again settled into second.
Finishing second in his heat, Grasty missed out on the Dash, but still locked into the feature event as he lined up in the 12th starting position.
When the race went green, lap two saw Grasty avoid near disaster as he came close to being involved with a flipping car.
With no damage to his car, Grasty was able to restart the race, as it went non stop for the final 28-laps.
Working the low side of the speedway, Grasty closed his weekend out with a 10th place finish.
“It was a long weekend especially running Watsonville on Friday night and then turning and burning to get ready for Placerville on Saturday,” Grasty added. “I really want to thank all of my guys for their hard work, and our partners for making weekends like that possible.”
