Cole Wakim Kicks 2026 Season Off in Las Vegas, NV
PETERSEN MEDIA: Cole Wakim and the JFM team got their 2026 season underway in Las Vegas, NV where Wakim picked up finishes of 13th and 14th.
“It was great to get to a new track, and learn some things,” Cole Wakim said. “I don’t have a ton of laps on a track that big, so it was cool to try something new and learn a lot.”
Thursday night the double-header in the desert got underway as Wakim timed in fourth fastest in his qualifying group.
Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Simi Valley, CA driver then lined up in the 15th starting position for his first feature event of the season. On a very tricky Las Vegas Dirt Track surface, Wakim focused on getting acclimated and getting all of his laps in.
Doing a solid job over the course of the race, Wakim picked up a few spots during the 20-lapper as he closed his opener out with a 13th place finish.
Back in action on Friday night to wrap up his trip to ‘Vegas, Wakim got off to a better start on this night as he timed in third fastest in his qualifying group which then put him on the pole of his heat race.
Battling brake issues during heat race competition, Wakim slipped back through the field. Holding on to a fifth place finish, Wakim found himself in the 14th starting spot for the final 20-lap feature event of the weekend.
Able to maintain his track position when the feature got underway, Wakim was happy with progress he made with each lap on the ½ mile. When the checkered flag flew, Wakim closed his weekend out with a 14th place finish.
“I was really happy that I got more comfortable each time we hit the track, and with that we seemingly got faster,” Wakim said. “Thanks to everyone that made the weekend possible.”
