Cole Wakim Third in Second Career Winged Sprint Car Start
PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his second ever start aboard a winged 360ci Sprint Car, Cole Wakim showed he is a quick study as he charged from seventh and picked up a third place finish on Friday night at Ocean Speedway.
“Friday night was just my second winged sprint car start and I was really happy with how I felt, and with how we raced,” Cole Wakim said.
Getting the night kicked off in time trials, Wakim timed the Quick Change Liquid Energy/Inland Rigging/MPe backed No. 73 entry in seventh fastest overall.
Lining up in the third starting position in heat race action, the Simi Valley, CA driver slipped back to finish in the fourth spot which ultimately lined him up seventh in the 30-lap feature event.
Running in seventh as the race came to life, Wakim was patient as the race unfolded. Staying tough in the Top-10 for the first half of the race, Wakim started to make his way forward during the second half of the 30-lapper.
Moving into fourth on the 15th lap, Wakim jumped into third on the 16th lap though it was a short stint as close action saw him back to fifth a lap later.
Able to make his way back into the fourth spot on the 19th lap, Wakim moved into third for good on the 22nd stanza as he chased after Tony Gomes and Seth Standley who ran in front of him.
As the final laps clicked off, Wakim held his position on the podium and went on to close the night out with a third place finish.
“It took me a little bit to find my rhythm in the feature, but once I did we were able to pick up a handful of positions and get on the podium,” Wakim added. “Thanks to everyone at JFM for all of their support and hard work.”
