Douglas County Dirt Track Highlights SCCT Speedweek for Bubba DeCaires

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though SCCT Speedweek didn’t go quite as Bubba DeCaires had hoped with some bad luck sprinkled throughout the week, the Elk Grove, CA driver was able to record a Top-10 at the Douglas County Dirt Track and take some positives away from a busy week of racing.

“It was a pretty tough week,” Bubba DeCaires said. “I felt like we had pretty good speed most nights, but we had a lot of bad luck and just no results to show for it other than a pretty nice night at Douglas County Dirt Track.”

The action kicked off on July 17th at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA. Racing his way into the feature from his heat race, DeCaires lined the Morrison Concrete/Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty/High Sierra Industries backed No. 94 up in the 15th starting position.

Able to work his way forward over the course of the fast-paced feature event, DeCaires flirted with a Top-10 before closing the night out with an 11th place finish.

Traveling to Placerville Speedway on the following night, DeCaires endured his first tough luck of the week as he was collected in an incident in what was a caution riddled feature event. Before being collected he had raced his way into the Top-10 from the 19th starting position.

Making his way to Douglas County Dirt Track last Monday night, DeCaires felt good all night. Lining up 15th in the feature event, he was able to again work his way forward as he did during the first two rounds of SCCT Speedweek. Racing his way into the Top-10, DeCaires worked his way up to a seventh-place finish when the field was shown the checkered flag.

Night four took DeCaires and the series to Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay, OR. Lining up 16th in the feature event, this was another night where luck wasn’t on his side. Working his way up into 12th late in the feature event, contact from another car ended his night on the 24th lap with a 20th place finish. Not only did it end his night early, but the damage forced DeCaires to skip to Cottage Grove Speedway visit on Wednesday night and head up to Washington early to make repairs to the final two rounds at Skagit Speedway.

Returning to action Friday night for the opening round of the Fred Brownfield 360 Nationals, DeCaires had his hands full on a surface that was extremely wet and rough, unlike any surface at the speedway all season long. Struggling all night long, and fighting engine issues, DeCaires missed out on the feature event, but was poised to end his week on a high note during Saturday night’s finale.

Greeted with a much more normal surface on Saturday night, DeCaires finished sixth in his qualifier and that put him in the seventh starting position in the ‘B’ with four tickets left into the A Main.

Quickly jumping into sixth, DeCaires hooked up in an entertaining battle with Seth Standley for fifth. As the duo exchanged the spot for a handful of laps, DeCaires finally took over for good and turned his attention to the fourth and final transfer spot.

Closing in as the laps clicked off, the Elk Grove, CA driver came up just short as his Speedweek came to a close with a fifth-place finish in the semi.

“Despite not making the show Saturday night, I still feel like I was able to learn a few things from a different perspective,” he said. “Overall, it was a long week, and I really want to thank everyone that made it possible.”

DeCaires would like to thank Morrison Concrete, Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty, High Sierra Industries, JLC Performance, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Wion’s Body Shop, and QuickCar Racing Products for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-13, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-6

ON TAP: DeCaires is set for action on August 15th back at Skagit Speedway.
