Forsberg 8th at SCCT Finale
PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action over the weekend to take part in both the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and NARC finales in Stockton, CA, Andy Forsberg scored an eighth-place finish on Friday night with the SCCT before having a DNF on Saturday night with NARC.
“It was an okay weekend for our team,” Andy Forsberg said. “Friday night I made a bonehead mistake in qualifying and pulled off on my second lap thinking I made two laps already, and Saturday night we just struggled all night in the 410ci.”
Checking in for the SCCT finale on Friday night with 26 cars in the pit area, Forsberg opened the weekend up by timing the PHR/Meridian Cameras/Oroville Tax backed No. 92 in 21st fastest with only the one lap taken.
Lining up sixth in his heat race, Forsberg was able to dig out of the hole he put himself in as he raced to a third-place finish in his heat race and improved his starting position in the feature emphatically.
Rolling off of the starting grid from 12th, Forsberg was able to avoid some of the chaos that took place early in the feature event that ultimately forced the officials to call for an ‘open red’ at the halfway point of the feature.
Working his way up into sixth after the crews cleared the track, Forsberg looked for a way inside the Top-5 as the laps wound down. Having some trouble on the narrow exit for turn four, Forsberg ended up losing a pair of positions in the final five laps as he slipped back to an eighth-place finish.
Saturday night saw the team swap power plant to take part in the NARC season finale. After getting off to a slow start in time trials, Forsberg was able to again make up for it in his heat race as he powered his way from seventh to fourth to again improve his feature event starting position.
Ripping around the Stockton Dirt Track bullring, a mid race restart didn’t got Forsberg’s way and it saw him get up over the racing surface and lose quite a few positions.
Making the decision to gather it up slowly, Forsberg then pulled his machine back to the pit area and brough his night to a close.
“We just seem to be a little off with our 410ci and our car,” Forsberg said. “We just weren’t great on Saturday.”
