Friday Night Top-5 Highlights Andy Forsberg’s Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending the weekend in Chico, CA for the Mini Gold Cup, Andy Forsberg had a strong run on Friday night that saw him finish fifth, before an eventful feature on Saturday night resulted in a DNF.

“Friday night was really cool for a few reasons,” Andy Forsberg said. “It was an old school Friday night 410ci show that we used to run all the time in Chico, the track was old school with a lot of speed and we ran pretty well.”

Forsberg got the weekend kicked off on Friday night by timing the PHR/Meridian Cameras/Oroville Tax backed No. 92 mount in 14th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, Forsberg held the spot as the race came to life and went on to finish in fifth to lock into the 30-lap feature event.

With a couple of narrow tired support divisions on hand Friday night, the track got extremely rough once the sprint car feature came to light. With a ton of grip and some rough patches, Forsberg went to work has he began working his way through the fray.

Biking and wheelieing, and even falling off the track at one point in the feature event, the Auburn, CA driver lived up to his ‘Mr. Excitement moniker and thrilled on lookers as he raced his way into the Top-5.

Getting up to fourth at one point, the multi-time Silver Dollar Speedway Champion capped Friday night off with a fifth-place finish.

Back in action with NARC on Saturday night for the Mini Gold Cup finale, Forsberg got off to a solid start on a surface that was opposite of Friday night and he timed in fourth fastest.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Forsberg needed to secure the win to earn a spot in the all-important Dash. Not getting the jump he needed, the Auburn, CA driver slipped back to second, which put him 10th on the starting grid for the 40-lap Mini Gold Cup feature event.

Not able to get off to a great start, Forsberg wasn’t able to do much as he searched around the Silver Dollar Speedway as he dropped back to 15th. Not able to find a line that felt good to him, Forsberg ultimately got up over the edge of the track on the 29th lap and packed his front end full of Silver Dollar Speedway clay and brought his night to an end.

“Saturday night, we just weren’t very good in the feature event,” Andy Forsberg said. “We had  a decent starting spot but I was too tight to run in the moisture that they laid down before the feature and was too free on the slick so it was challenging. Once I got up over the cushion and packed the front end full of mud I just called it a night since we really weren’t going anywhere before that point in the race.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, MCK, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
