High Limit Top-5 For Joel Myers Jr
PETERSEN MEDIA: Joel Myers Jr had a great showing with the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing Series on Thursday night in Arizona. Lining up 14th in the feature event, Myers Jr patiently worked his way forward and scored a 5th place finish.
“We got our week off to a great start, then just had some things not go our way on Friday and Saturday,” Myers Jr said. “After running fifth on Thursday, Friday night we got too tight in the feature and faded back a little, and on Saturday night we had a part failure end our night while running in a transfer position in our heat.”
Kicking the Cactus Classic off on Thursday night in Casa Grande, AZ, Myers Jr timed the Graham Rahal Performance/Gary Tennyson Motorsports/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 19 in 17th fastest in time trials.
Going from sixth to fifth in his heat race, Myers Jr earned the transfer into the feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the 14th position.
Abel to run a patient race amidst some of the chaos in the early laps, Myers Jr up into eighth on the 4th lap, and then made a couple of moves to take over third on the 8th lap.
Battling for third and fourth for a majority of the race, Myers Jr flexed his muscle and went toe-to-toe with some of the best in the world.
On the 20th lap, Gio Scelzi was able to sneak by Myers Jr and put him in the fifth position, where he went on to finish.
Timing in ninth fastest in time trials on Friday night, Myers Jr again finished fifth in his heat race which put him 17th on the starting grid on this night. In the early stages of the feature, Myers Jr worked his way up into the Top-15, but as he started to battle a tight car he lost the track position that he worked so hard for and ended up 20th.
Saturday night saw Myers Jr again time in very well, as his eighth quickest effort put him in the third row of his heat race. When the heat came to life, Myers Jr settled into fifth as he appeared to be on his way to transferring directly into the feature event, but on the race’s last lap he endured a rear end failure which ultimately brought his night to an end.
“It definitely wasn’t the final night we wanted to have, but I was happy with the speed our car had all weekend,” Myers Jr said. “I really want to give a huge thank you to Graham Rahal Performance and Gary Tennyson Motorsports for all of their support the last two weeks. It was a ton of fun to represent both of them with High Limit Racing. Along with their support, I appreciate all of our marketing partners for making this all possible.”
