Issues Hinder Ryan Bernal and JFM During NARC Doubleheader
PETERSEN MEDIA: Back in action together for the first time since their strong showing at the NorCal Posse Shootout, Ryan Bernal and the Josh Ford Motorsports team had a ton of speed during two NARC events, however issues each night hindered them in both feature events.
“We really had good speed all weekend,” Ryan Bernal said. “Unfortunately something mechanical kept us from starting the feature on Friday night, and Saturday night I was trying to make something happen on a narrow track while running second and we got together with another car.”
Kicking the weekend off in Watsonville, CA at Ocean Speedway, Bernal timed the NOS Energy Drink/Inland Rigging/MPe backed No. 73 in eight fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA driver settled into second as the race came to life. Finishing in the second position Bernal was locked into the feature event where he was then slated to take the green flag from the eighth starting position.
When cars made their way onto the track to stage for the feature, Bernal’s entry would not come to life. Going back to the pit area, the team was unable to diagnose the issue and Bernal was unable to start the race.
Heading to Tulare, CA on Saturday night, Bernal picked up right where he left off on Friday as he timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials before racing to a third place finish in his heat race.
Earning a spot in the nightly Dash, Bernal picked up the win and led the field to green for the opening 20 lap feature event. When the race came to life, Bernal slipped back to second as he chased after Justin Sanders on the fresh groomed Thunderbowl Raceway surface.
Continuing to give chase, Bernal saw an opening on the 10th lap and took it as the battle for the lead was on. Amidst the battle, the two cars made contact and it resulted in Bernal’s race coming to an end as the JFM team went to work to make repairs for the second feature.
Lining up 22nd in the second feature, Bernal was able to pick up a few spots over the course of the 20-lapper as he capped the weekend off with an 18th place finish.
“Definitely a frustrating weekend, but on the bright side we have a lot of speed in both the 410 and the 360 which is great,” Bernal added. “Thaks to Jimmy and everyone on the JFM team for working so hard all weekend.”
JFM would like to thank NOS Energy Drink, Inland Rigging, MPe, SURECAN, Woodland Auto Display, Beilman Motorsports, and 1Way Technologies for their support in 2025.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 11, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 5
ON TAP: Bernal and company will be idle this weekend before heading to Knoxville, IA next weeked in the Tom Dunkle owned No. 17 car.
