Joel Myers Jr 14th with High Limit at Lakeside
PETERSEN MEDIA: Heading to Kansas over the weekend to take on High Limit Racing at Lakeside Speedway, Joel Myers Jr made some late magic happen in the Saturday night ‘B’ to transfer to the feature event where he charged from 24th to 14th.
“We basically called it an early night Friday with how the track was and where we sat after or heat, so we definitely wanted to come back strong on Saturday, and I think we did,” Joel Myers Jr said.
Saturday night, Myers Jr timed the Velocity Engineering/IPC/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 19H in 12th fastest in time trials and that line him up in the fourth row of his heat race.
Going from seventh to sixth in his heat, Myers Jr just narrowly missed the transfer into the show, but was in a very good spot to transfer in out of the ‘B’.
Lining up fifth in the Last Chance Qualifier, the Sebastopol, CA driver held his own in fifth as he worked the high side of the speedway. Continuing to pound the top, Myers Jr chased after Daison Pursley who held the final ticket to the “A” just ahead of him.
Looking like he would finish fifth and miss the “A” as the white flag flew, Myers Jr stayed committed to the top and was able to beat Pursley to the checkered flag in a photo finish that brought the crowd to their feet.
Taking the green from the last row, Myers Jr went to work as he was very patient in traffic. Able to work his way forward, Myers Jr got himself into a rhythm and was able to pick up spots as the race clicked off laps.
Continuing to work forward, Myers Jr was able to get up to 14th when the checkered flag flew.
“I was really happy with how we ran all night,” Myers Jr said. “It’s great to get into a High Limit feature at a place I haven’t ran a ton, and was happy we were able to move forward.”
