Joel Myers Jr Claims 31st Trophy Cup Title
PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trip home to his native California to take part in one of the state’s crown jewel events, Joel Myers Jr had a weekend to remember with Hayward Motorsports as he picked up the overall championship during the grueling three-day event.
“It is still really surreal to say that I am a Trophy Cup Champion,” Joel Myers Jr said. “It is one of those events that you grow up dreaming of winning, and with the format they use it is extremely tough. I had some great people behind me all weekend long, and this one is very special to me.”
Enduring mechanical issues during Thursday’s feature event, the team was able to acquire an engine from the Dominic Gorden Racing team to keep their Trophy Cup alive.
Friday night, Myers Jr needed to have a strong night with his Thursday night point total, and he got off to a great start as he timed the Velocity Engineering backed No. 19 entry in fifth fastest in qualifying.
Lining up seventh in his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver was able to gain valuable points in his heat race as he worked his way forward and finished fourth.
Sitting 10th in Friday night points once heat races were complete, Myers Jr was solidly locked into the feature event as he rolled off the starting grid from third with the Top-12 point earners inverted.
In a very hard-fought feature event, Myers Jr kept his car well inside the Top-5 all race long as he worked to put himself in a good spot for the Saturday’s Championship finale .
Bouncing between fourth and fifth for much of the race, Myers Jr was able to secure fourth at the finish line, and when everyone’s best point totals were tabulated, he sat 7th heading into Saturday.
Lining up in the fourth row of his heat race, Myers Jr was focused on going forward simply to improve his point positioning for the 50-lap feature event. Turning in quite possibly the best heat race of anyone over the course of the three nights, he advanced from seventh to second and propelled himself to the top of the point standings heading into the 50-lap feature event that was fully inverted by points with the champion taking home $30,000.
Mired in traffic in the early goings of the feature event, many of the top point earners weren’t able to do much from the tail end of the field as the race got into a groove.
Following a couple of tangles at the front, things started to get interesting as the high point earners were able to start working towards the Top-10. Sitting in 10th at the halfway point of the feature event, Myers Jr was back in the equation for the title after entering the race with a 10-point cushion.
During the final 23 stanzas after the open red, Myers Jr was able to continue to work his way forward as he got into eighth when the checkered flag flew, and was able to stake his claim as the 2025 Trophy Cup Champion.
“I was excited to get the Hayward Motorsports No. 19 car out to CA after all of the progress we have made to over the summer, and we were really good all weekend, despite a mechanical issue in the feature on Thursday,” Myers Jr said. “I am extremely thankful for the support we get from Brodie and Sarah Hayward, as well as all of our great marketing partners.”
