Joel Myers Jr Nets Two Podiums Aboard PDM No. 5
PETERSEN MEDIA: Reuniting with Wayne Priddy and Andrew Deal over the weekend to pilot the PDM No. 5 entry, Joel Myers Jr had another strong showing with the team as he ran second on Friday night at Humboldt Speedway and third on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway.
“It was another really good showing with the PDM team,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We were able to charge from 9th to 2nd on Friday in a nonstop feature, and then backed it up with another podium on Saturday night.”
Spending the weekend competing with POWRi, Myers Jr kicked his weekend off by timing in sixth fastest in time trials, which lined him up in the second row of his heat race.
Slipping back to fourth with the waving of the green flag, the Sebastopol, CA driver settled in and clicked off laps around the Humboldt Speedway. Locking into the ‘A’ with a fourth-place finish, Myers Jr was set to roll from the ninth starting position in the feature event.
Continuing to work with his team to get the car where he wanted for the feature, Myers Jr was off and running when the green lights flashed on. Jumping into sixth when the race came to life, Myers Jr was up into fifth on the fifth lap. Continuing to get better as he clicked off laps, he took over fourth on the ninth lap as the leaders were in traffic.
Moving into third at the halfway point, Myers Jr’s march forward wasn’t complete just yet. Getting into second on the 17th lap, Myers Jr was closing in on the leader but they were still in dense traffic. Getting caught behind a slower car, Myers Jr was unable to track down the lead and closed the six-minute feature out with a second-place finish.
Returning to action on Saturday night with POWRi, the scene shifted to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. Getting off to an even better start this night, Myers Jr timed in second fastest in time trials before his fourth-place finish in his heat race placed him in the third row of the 25-lap feature event.
Taking the green flag from the outside of row three, Myers Jr was again able to carve his way forward. Working into fifth at the race’s onset, Myers Jr was into fourth by the fifth lap.
Getting hooked up in an exciting battle for fourth and fifth, Myers Jr was officially back in fifth at the halfway point of the race, but was able to win the battle on the 16th lap. Back in fourth, he closed in on a podium position and was able to take over third with just five laps left in the race. Holding the position through a late restart, Myers Jr was able to cap his weekend off with a second podium as he finished third.
“It is always fun to work with Wayne Priddy and everyone associated with the PDM team,” Myers Jr said. “Really happy to have a couple of good runs as I now turn my attention back to Hayward Motorsports and get ready for the next two weeks at Knoxville Raceway.”
