Landon Brooks and Hamilton Racing Score Pair of Runner Up Finishes with High Limit Racing
PETERSEN MEDIA: Refreshed after a couple of weeks away from racing, Landon Brooks and the Hamilton Racing team came out swinging to kick off their swing with High Limit Racing as they were one of three teams to finish in the Top-10 all three nights, including two career best runner up finishes.
“My guys have been working so hard all year long, and to come out and have the results and the performance like this during our biggest stretch of the year is awesome,” Landon Brooks said. “All three nights we were able to put complete nights together, and I am extremely proud of everyone’s efforts.”
Kicking the three night stretch off on Thursday night at Santa Maria Speedway, Brooks got the night started by timing the Lippert Construction/THE/Mozingo Construction entry in 12th fastest in qualifying time trials.
With the track staying heavy and fast for much of the night, Brooks was able to maintain in his heat race as he started and finished third which then locked him into the 10th starting position in the 35-lap feature event.
From his fifth row starting position, Brooks was able to mix it up with some of the best drivers in the country as he battled inside the Top-10 all feature long. Getting up as high as seventh at one point the close-quarters actions saw him drop back as far as 10th as the race wore on. In the end, Brooks kicked the opening night of his High Limit swing off with a 10thplace finish.
Friday night the scene shifted north as the series invaded Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA. A slick surface early in the night saw the Rio Oso, CA driver time in fifth fastest in qualifications.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Brooks was able to slip into second as the green flag waved and the field charged into turns one and two. With not much passing taking place in heats, his runner up finish locked him into the 35-lapper where he took the green flag from the ninth starting position.
Following track prep, Brooks hit the track and showed he had a very strong car underneath him that allowed him to both rip the cushion as well as slow roll the bottom at the famed track.
Working his way into the fifth position on the sixth lap, Brooks continued to fight his way forward as he was into fourth on the 12th lap and then cracked a spot on the podium at the halfway point as he battled with the likes of Aaron Reutzel and Tyler Courtney.
With action all over the Thunderbowl Raceway surface, Brooks slipped back to fifth in the closing laps but a couple of big time moves at the end of the race saw him work into second, as he scored a career best finish with the series.
Riding the momentum into Saturday’s event at Placerville Speedway, Brooks again came out swinging as he timed in sixth fastest in time trials and again finished second in his heat race.
Qualifying for the Dash on this night, Brooks’ eighth place finish lined him up in the fourth row for the 35-lap feature event on a slick Placerville Speedway surface.
Just as he did the night prior, Brooks was again on the move early and often on this night. Jumping into fifth as the race went green, Brooks was able to take the fourth position on the 16th marker before racing into third two laps later.
Getting into second on the 21st lap, Brooks began to chase after Corey Day who ran ahead of him and in thick traffic. Cutting into Day’s lead, the battle appeared to be on as Brooks closed in on the 31st lap but a subsequent red flag was needed and took the leaders out of traffic and halted the battle.
The final four laps saw Day get away in clean air, but for the second night in a row Brooks and Hamilton Racing enjoyed a runner up finish.
“I really wanted to see the race not get interrupted late on Saturday night because traffic was definitely getting interesting,” Brooks noted. “But overall, I am just so happy for our team and I am extremely excited for these next four nights in Chico, CA.”
