Landon Brooks Kicks Off Midget Season With Hangtown 100 Hard Charge
PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to the seat of a Matt Wood Racing midget for the first time since his extremely successful Chili Bowl back in January, Landon Brooks got off to a slow start as he reacclimated, but by the end of the night he was back in form as he charged form 21st to 4th in the 100-lap feature event.
“I am really excited to be back in a Matt Wood Racing midget for this CA swing and then at Chili Bowl,” Landon Brooks said. “We have backing from Lippert Construction and Hamilton Racing and to be that competitive after a slow start is great.”
31 cars checked in at Placerville Speedway as the track worked extremely hard to get the show in amidst a sizeable storm that saturated the area.
With the track showing signs of rain and holding a lot of speed, Brooks got the night kicked off by timing the Lippert Construction/Hamilton Racing/Matt Wood Racing No. 57W in 20th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Pocketing a fourth place finish in his heat race, the Rio Oso, CA driver was locked into the 100-lap feature event where he found himself starting back in 21st on a a very locked down track.
Despite being mired deep in the field, Brooks was able to avoid a multi car pile up that took place right ahead of him on the race’s initial start, as he then began his march to the front.
Working around the famed bullring in El Dorado County, Brooks went toe-to-toe with some of the countries best in Midget racing. Continuing to fight forward, Brooks was able to cap off the grueling feature event with a charge form 21stto fourth to kick the CA swing with the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget Series off.
“I felt like early in the night I was just getting back into the swing of things in a midget,’ Brooks added. “Luckily the Matt Wood Racing guys kept working with me and we got the car very good in the feature event and I felt extremely comfortable.”
With Placerville Speedway now in the rear view mirror, Brooks and company now have their sites set on Saturday’s event in Merced, CA with rain already cancelling the scheduled races in Visalia, CA and Tulare, CA.
“Merced is another bullring like Placerville Speedway, and I am hoping with a few days to dry out it will be a little more wide and allow us to move around a little more,” Brooks added.
Landon Brooks would like to thank Lippert Construction, Hamilton Racing, Matt Wood Racing, Keizer Wheels, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, and Shane Golobic Composites for their support.
ON TAP: Landon Brooks and the Matt Wood Racing team are slated to return to action on Saturday night in Merced, CA.
