Landon Brooks Third at Silver Cup Opener
PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending the weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for the ‘Silver Cup’, Landon Brooks and the Hamilton Racing team picked up a third-place finish on Friday night and ended up 13th during Saturday night’s finale.
“All weekend long the track was super hooked up and fast, and that bit me a little bit on Friday as I ran out of tear offs with about seven laps to go,” Landon Brooks said. “We were so good all night, and I believe we had a car to contend for the top spot up until I had play it conservative in the closing laps.”
With 21 cars checked into the pit area on Friday night, Brooks timed the Lippert Construction/Tiner Hirst Enterprise/Mozingo Construction backed No. 21L mount in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials before recording a runner up finish in heat race competition.
Just narrowly missing out on the Dash, the Rio Oso, CA driver was slotted to take the green flag from the seventh starting position for the first 30-lap feature of the weekend.
Moving into sixth when the field was shown the green, Brooks worked his way into fifth on the fourth lap and was really one of the only drivers who was able to make moves on the hooked-up surface.
Racing into fourth on the 10th lap, Brooks continued his charge to the front as he got into a battle for the final podium position on the 12th lap and swapped the third and fourth position for the next four laps.
Settling back into fourth on 15th lap, Brooks continued to bide his time, though he started to run low on tear-offs as he chased after a spot on the podium. With vision running low, Brooks was able to take over third on the 26th lap, where he went on to close the night out.
Back in action for the Silver Cup finale on Saturday, Brooks and company opted to try a few different things on another heavy surface as they opened the night up timing in 20th fastest amongst the 26 entrants.
Advancing to a sixth-place finish in his heat race, Brooks locked directly into the feature event where he then took the green flag from the 17th starting position.
Mired in heavy traffic on another locked down surface, Brooks slowly worked his way forward with passing being at a premium. Working his way towards the Top-10, Brooks wasn’t quite able to crack it as he closed the weekend out with a 13th place finish.
“We tried a few things on Saturday, and though the results weren’t what we wanted I think it was really productive in teaching us a few things for the season ahead,” Brooks added. “Big thanks to everyone associated with Hamilton Racing and all of our partners for continuing to support my racing efforts.”
