PETERSEN MEDIA: Cole Wakim and the Josh Ford Motorsports team were back in action together on Saturday night as they checked in for a night of USCS racing at Kern County Raceway Park. Having a great night going, a last lap incident changed the complexion of Wakim’s night as he was involved in a wreck while running second.

“We had really good speed all night long, and we were in position to have a really good finish, but it just wasn’t meant to be,” Cole Wakim said.

Wakim and the JFM team were strong all night. Getting the night kicked off on a high note despite fighting engine issues, Wakim timed the Quick Change Liquid Energy/Inland Rigging/MPe backed No. 73 in second fastest in his qualifying flight.

Making adjustments to their powerplant before the heat race, Wakim continued to flex his muscle at the Bakersfield, CA facility as he raced his way to the win in heat race action and put his mount on the front row of the feature event.

When the feature event came to life, Wakim settled into second as he went to work on the race leader and looked for way into the race’s top spot.

Continuing to hold down second as the laps clicked off, Wakim was relentless in his efforts for the race’s top spot.

Despite his efforts, Wakim took the white flag in second and appeared to be on his way to a podium finish but in turns three and four on the final lap cars tangled in front of him and with nowhere to go Wakim was collected in the mess and limped to a sixth place finish.

“Thankful to have had a great car all night, and really happy with our speed but it was just one of those nights that didn’t end how it should have,” Wakim added.
