Last Minute Change of Plans Results In 13th Place Finish at Gold Cup Race of Champions for Chance Grasty

PETERSEN MEDIA- Enduring engine issues at Placerville Speedway, Chance Grasty and the F&F Racing team thought their only activity at Gold Cup would be the opening night 360ci race. Thanks to some great partners, the team procured a fresh 410ci and were able to take part in the entire event and it paid off as Grasty finished 13th in Saturday’s feature event.

“We headed to the track Wednesday thinking that was our only night of action for the week, but thanks to Bushey Financial Services, he helped us add another 410ci to our stable and we were good to go for the rest of the week,” Chance Grasty said.

After running 13th in Wednesday night’s non-stop 360ci feature, Grasty and company hit the track for their prelim night on Friday after dropping their new powerplant into the Bushey Financial Services/C&H Motor Parts/Sierra Single Ply Roofing backed No. x1 entry.

Timing in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Suisun City, CA driver lined up in the second row of his heat race. Getting a great jump, Grasty was quickly into second and chasing after the race leader. Not quite able to steal the win, Grasty’s effort still had him very strong in event points as he lined up ninth in the feature event.

Getting off to a bit of a slow start in the Friday night feature, Grasty battled a loose racecar as he made some changes to his line and with his wing to get his car more comfortable. A late run saw him get back into the Top-10 as he finished the night in ninth and sat 15th in points heading into the Saturday night finale.

Sitting on the front row of his Saturday night qualifier, Grasty needed to finish inside the Top-3 to lock into the feature event. Settling into second, Grasty was never challenged for the spot and was in his second career Gold Cup feature event.

Taking the green from the 15th starting spot, Grasty was able to work his way forward on the slick surface before the rubber starting going down on the speedway.

Inside the Top-10 and into seventh with just two laps to go in the 40-lapper, Grasty’s right-rear gave way as he limped around the track and was scored 13th when the checkered flew on the event.

“I am just so thankful everything worked out, and I wish we could have capped the weekend off with a Top-10 but our tire just couldn’t take anymore,” Grasty added. “Thankful to have great sponsors and a great team behind me.”

F&F Racing would like to thank Bushey Financial Services, C&H Motor Parts, Sierra Single Ply Roofing, Wrayvon, CRV Carbon Solutions, Quick Change Liquid Energy, All Pro Heads, Engler, and Don Ott Racing Engines for their support.

ON TAP: F&F Racing and Chance Grasty are now set to take on NARC on Saturday and Sunday night at Calistoga Speedway.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-34, Wins-3, Top 5’s-11, Top 10’s-21
