4th of July Podium Highlights Two-Race Week for Tony Gomes and C&M Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- A two-race week to commemorate the 4th of July saw Tony Gomes charge to a 3rd place finish on the 4th before issues on the 6th relegated him toa  DNF after charging into the Top-5 after being collected in a lap one issue.

“The 4th got off to a bit of a slow start, but in the feature I knew I had to get up on the wheel and go after starting pretty far back, and we had a fun race that ended with a third place finish,” Tony Gomes said. “The sixth we were in a good starting spot, but I got caught up in a lap one issue and had to go to the back. Able to get back up to fourth, another issue arose and with nowhere to go our night came to an unfortunate end."

Kicking the long weekend off on Thursday night, Gomes timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c in 14th fastest and hand his work cut out for himself.

Finishing third in his heat race, Gomes lined up in the seventh row of the 25-lap feature event. With the track staying in good shape despite the high heat, Gomes was able to slice and dice his way through the field.

Working into the Top-5 just before the halfway point, Gomes continued to power his way forward. Working into third on the 14th lap, Gomes chased after Shane Golobic and Dylan Bloomfield who were out front.

When the Ron Stahl checkered flew, Gomes capped his night of with a run from 13th to 3rd.

Back at the track on Saturday night amidst blazing heat, Gomes’ night got off to a better start as he timed in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials before scoring a second-place finish in heat race competition.

Lining up eighth in the feature event, Gomes got off to another good start, however a multi car tangle with one lap in the books collected Gomes and relegated to him to the back of the pack.

Just as he did on Thursday, Gomes was a rocket from the rear of the field, and was back into the seventh spot by the seventh lap.

Gomes continued to work around the bullring and was up into the fourth spot on lap 16, and looking for more.

Unfortunately, the Modesto, CA runners’ night came to an end on the 18th lap as another multi car pile up collected him again in turns one and two.

“Saturday was definitely disappointing for our team since we were really running well after a really good run on Thursday,” Gomes said. “I cant thank Cody, John, and Bobby enough for their hard work, because the heat was brutal all weekend long. Those guys never gave up, and I wish Saturday could have produced another top three finish. Cody and Mandi continue to provide a great opportunity, and I’m very confident with the speed we have heading into Saturday’s event.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
