(PETERSEN MEDIA- Aptos, CA)- The most grueling race on the 2016 calendar is upon us as the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster is set for the 56th Johnny Key Classic at the Ocean Speedway on Saturday night where $5000 awaits the winner of the 50-lap feature event.

Making the second and final appearance of the year at the Ocean Speedway, the stage is set for one of the Golden State’s most prestigious events, the 56th running of the Johnny Key Classic featuring the Civil War Sprint Car Series presented by Flowmaster.

Heading into Saturday night’s event the Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster is amidst a torrid battle for the series championship for the second year-in-a-row. Eight time and defending series champion, Andy Forsberg comes into ‘The Key’ with a slim 13-point advantage over Mason Moore and both will be gunning for one of the 18-spots up for grabs in Saturday night’s 50-lap feature event.

The Johnny Key Classic offers a unique format to competitors as four drivers have already locked into the $5000-to-win feature event. Through two Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster events and two Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo events, Steven Tiner, Sean Becker, Tommy Tarlton, and Justin Sanders will await four heat race winners and take part in the Dash for Cash, where they will chase after the $500 put up by Jason Newton of 35 Industries, and set the first four rows of the feature event.

Drivers looking to race into the feature event will have a couple of chances to do so. Saturday night’s format will feature a time trial session that will line up drivers into four heat races with no inversion. Each heat winner will move into the Dash for Cash, and the Top-3 finishers will earn a spot in the Johnny Key Classic feature event.

The remaining balance of the field will take part in the B Main, (or twin B mains depending on car count) with four transfer spots available for the feature event. Drivers that are not locked into the feature following heat races and B Main(s), will take part in a Last Chance Qualifier, with two final feature event berths up for grabs.

Once the 22-car field is set a 23rd spot will be available for a past Johnny Key Classic Champion who was unable to race their way into the feature event. Saturday night’s feature event will be a grueling 50-lap affair with a red flag scheduled somewhere in the middle of the race where crews will have 10-minutes to do whatever changes they are able to do on the front stretch.

With just four drivers locked into the 2016 event ahead of time, the action on Saturday night should be great with a stout field of drivers expected to be on hand looking for a way into the 50-lap feature event.

Aside from the four drivers locked in, drivers expected to be on hand are 2015 Key winner, Andy Forsberg, Mason Moore, 2016 HK Classic Champion, Kyle Hirst, Bradley Terrell, Michael Ing, Koen and Kyler Shaw, Geoff Ensign, 2014 Series Champion, Shane Golobic, Willie Croft, Tyler Walker, Jason Statler, DJ Netto, Chase Majdic, Michael Kofoid, Brad Furr, Kurt Nelson, Dustin Golobic, Lucas Ashe, Jason and Jeremy Chisum, DJ Freitas, Cole Macedo, and many more of the regions top drivers.

Saturday night at the Ocean Speedway, the front gates are slated to open at 330pm with the driver’s meeting scheduled for 430pm. Tickets can be purchased on racepmg.com or will be available at the entrance. Adult tickets will be available for $22, Kids for $15, and children five and under will be admitted for free.
