Andy Forsberg 11th at Antioch Speedway After Late Race Misstep Knocks Him Out of Top-5

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his way to Antioch Speedway on Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Andy Forsberg endured a lap 25 misstep in the feature event while running in the Top-5 that ultimately regulated him to an 11th place finish in the feature event.

“I just was not very good all night long,” Andy Forsberg said. “We didn’t time in well, and in the feature event we did get going but I went looking for a little more and smoked into turn one and two too hot and ended up spinning out trying to make the top work.”

18 cars made the trek to the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds, and Forsberg got the night started by timing in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Taking the green flag for his heat race from inside the second row, Forsberg finished third which locked him into the 10thstarting position for the 35-lap feature event.

The race’s initial start, and then a lap four restart didn’t quite go Forsberg’s way as he dropped back to 13th, but a restart on lap eight saw the Auburn, CA driver jump into sixth aboard the Meridian Cameras/PCH/Oroville Tax backed entry.

Getting into fourth on the 15th lap, Forsberg continued to search around the speedway for grip. With eventual race winner Braden Chiaramonte making the high side work all around the speedway, Forsberg opted to move to the top and try and make it work, but he admittedly didn’t enter the corner right on the 25th lap and it resulted in him spinning to a stop.

Going back to 14th with 10-lpas to go, Forsberg was able to make up a few positions as he ended up finishing in the 11thposition.

“Honestly the race track was prepared well, and it just progressively slicked off as the night went along, but we had a couple of different lane options,” he added. “I got to moving around late in the feature searching for grip, and figured I’d try the top but I made an error.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-16, Wins-1, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-7

ON TAP: Forsberg will return to action this Saturday night at Placerville Speedway for a night of weekly points racing.
