Andy Forsberg 13th in Watsonville, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA- Following the Sprint Car Challenge Tour to Watsonville, CA on Saturday night, Andy Forsberg and the F&F Racing team would pick up a 13th place finish at the Johnny Key Classic.

“It was a pretty stout field of cars that showed up for the ‘Key’, and we found ourselves in a pretty stout qualifying and heat race group,” Forsberg said. “We timed in fourth in our group and got off to a good start in our heat, but a yellow lined us up on the outside for a restart and we slipped back to finish fifth.”

With a total of 48-cars checked in for the famed event, Forsberg would find himself in a tough qualifying group but was able to time the C&H Motor Parts/Bushey Financial Services/PitStopUSA backed No. x1 machine in fourth fastest amongst the other 11 cars in his group.

Lining up on the inside of the second row for heat race action, the Auburn, CA driver got off to a nice start as he jumped into the second position. Running in second, a mid-race caution would line the field back up in double file formation and would change the complexion of Forsberg’s heat race.

Finding himself on the outside lane, Forsberg would lose a couple of positions as he slipped back to finish in the fifth and final transfer spot into the 35-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 18th starting position.

When the feature event came to life following some track prep, Forsberg was able to slowly make a few moves as he worked his way towards to the Top-10. Following a stoppage just prior to the race’s halfway point, the track began to change drastically.

As the surface went slick, it soon began to take rubber. As the rubber started to go down on the speedway, Forsberg would find himself stuck in the 13th position as passing began to stop.

Able to keep his tires underneath him, Forsberg would cap the 61st running of the Key off with a 13th place finish.

“We got off to a good start, but then it took rubber and that was all she wrote,” Forsberg said. “The shape of this place is pretty crazy now, so once the rubber went down we got off the top, and things calmed down a bit. The way it is now, it reminded me of Tulare running the top, but with no wall, a mistake puts you out in no man’s land.”

F&F Racing and Andy Forsberg would like to thank C&H Motor Parts, Bushey Financial Services, PitStopUSA, Geico Local Office, Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes, Lucas Oil, Pacific Highway Rentals, Autism Awareness, CRV Carbon Solutions, All Pro Heads, and Engler for their support in 2021.

ON TAP: F&F Racing is TBD on their next race at the time of press.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-27, Wins-3, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-18.
