Andy Forsberg 2nd at Fall Nationals Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending his weekend in Chico, CA taking part in the Fall Nationals event, Andy Forsberg came alive late in Friday night’s feature as he worked his way to a second-place finish, before a late restart saw him bicycle up in turns one and two before coming to a stop off the racing surface and he opted to call it a night.

“Friday night the track was fast and had a couple of ruts, and we got rolling and came to life late in the ‘A’,” Andy Forsberg said. “We got into second and chased after Dylan Bloomfield, but we just didn’t quite have the time to track him down.”

Timing in second fastest in his qualifying group, Forsberg’s second place finish put the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 solidly in the feature event, but also gave him a berth in the Trophy Dash.

Finishing seventh in the Dash, Forsberg lined up in the fourth row for the opening night 30-lap feature event.

With the track being tough to pass one at times with the conditions being extremely fast, Forsberg was able to slowly work his way into the Top-Five, as he took over the fifth position on the 10th lap.

Moving into fourth at the halfway point, Forsberg continued to get better as the laps clicked off. Moving into third on the 23rd lap, Forsberg powered into second a lpa later, and had nearly a second to make up and only five laps to do it.

Shaving a half second of Bloomfield’s advantage in on laps, Forsberg continued to close in as traffic became a factor again late in the race.

Getting close to him with two to go, Forsberg got held up by a slower car on the final lap, and capped his night off with a second place finish.

Saturday night’s action saw the track the polar opposite from Friday’s conditions. Extremely slick early in the night, Forsberg was able to get timed in third fastest in his qualifying group.

Lining up third in his heat race, a wild wreck broke out right in front of him just after taking the green flag, and Forsberg had his top wing ripped off from a flipping car going over him.

Heading to the work area, the PHR Racing team thrashed to make repairs, and had Forsberg patched up enough to restart from eighth.

Able to make a couple big moves when the heat race came to life, Forsberg was back up in fourth and solidly in the 40-lap feature event. While he closed in on the top-three, Forsberg held on to fourth, and the team went to work on making repairs with much more time on their hands.

From the 14th starting position, Forsberg continued to show speed at Silver Dollar Speedway, as he worked his way forward on the reworked surface. Slicing and dicing his way forward, the Auburn, CA driver was up into sixth when the yellow flag flew on the 30th lap.

When the action resumed, Forsberg charged into turns one and two, and his car got to hopping and got up on two wheels before it spun around and came to a rest after nearly going upside-down.

With so few laps left in the race, Forsberg made the decision to call it a night as he headed back to his pit area.

“It was a pretty solid weekend for our team overall,” Forsberg said. “We had speed when it was heavy and fast, as well as when it was extremely slick, and we were able to move forward on both surfaces. I’m a little disappointed in myself for how we ended Saturday night, but I do want to thank all of my guys for their hard work in putting us in a good spot after we got collected in that heat wreck.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-35, Wins-4, Top 5’s-14, Top 10’s-18
